As the Country raged, Stratford was in the thick of the battle. You will learn about the attempted assassination of Lord Brook in a violent explosion that shook the rafters of this very building and the atrocities of nearby Edgehill where, according to some, the spirits of the dead still clash on the haunted battlefield.

We have brought some of the actual battlefield within our walls, who knows what else has been brought in...

A re-creation of the tavern that once stood on this site. You will breathe in the heady atmosphere of tall tales and raised tankards. Learn the ribald songs and games that once filled these whattled walls, maybe even eavesdrop on the drinkers as they discuss the Civil War racking the country, and the shattering explosion of the night before's failed assassination attempt at the market hall just across the street.

As you walk down the stairs you will experience a total change of atmosphere, stepping into a not so distant history.

The turn of the 20th century, together with Ye olde Curiosity Shoppe, the Empire days, Strange but Untrue and much more...including the Penny Arcade together with Madame Zandra who still predicts the future...
